The Strategy: Transforming 15 years of legacy into an open-source pioneer
ProXeet set out to build a modern, high-performance open-source platform for remote switch and server configuration. The business goal was to displace outdated, techno-centric software from 15 years ago and offer global enterprise network teams an intuitive tool that optimizes infrastructure maintenance and reduces downtime.
The Technical Moat: Zero references and hardware immersion
Designing for network engineers meant navigating an exceptionally complex domain with zero existing UX benchmarks. To truly understand the mental models of my users, I conducted deep technical field research and even disassembled the physical switch hardware in a 3D context. Mapping the real-world architecture of physical ports into a virtual UI allowed me to create an interface that speaks the engineers' exact language.
Core Feature: Distance control and live traffic visualization
I designed a centralized monitoring dashboard that visualizes real-time traffic flow directly within the application. Instead of forcing admins to manually run complex script sequences, the new UI allows them to remotely toggle switch configurations, manage PoE status, and track connection health on a live interactive map in just a couple of clicks.
Leadership: Scaling the design stream from 1 to Team
I launched this project as the sole product designer, defining the initial information architecture, user flows, and design system tokens. As the product expanded and validated its value, I scaled the design team, established agile cross-functional workflows, and led a team of designers—guiding their daily tasks, reviewing outputs, and successfully defending strategic design decisions in front of technical leadership and engineering teams.
Learnings
Bridge physical and digital architecture:
Immersive domain research—like studying the physical layout of hardware devices—is essential to building logical UI mental models for specialized expert users.
Code-driven design systems thrive:
For highly technical products, a design system must be modular and code-aligned. Building a flexible component architecture allows the UI to flawlessly adapt to dynamic code-driven configuration changes.
Leadership is born in chaos:
Taking an unstable legacy infrastructure with zero references and transforming it into an industry-leading product is the ultimate test for scaling both design processes and product teams.
